Contest Work
Like many Professional Sand Sculptors I started out entering contests.
The biggest and best contests in North America run events for Soloists, Teams of 2 (Duos)
and big teams. Usually the contest lasts for 2 to 3 days. The organisers of these events
supply considerable resources to the sculptors and the work reflects this.
Solo Sculptures:
Angela the Huntress, Solo, July 2006, Monmouth Park, NJ.
Duo Sculptures:
Let's See What's On..., Duo with B. Dow of Billings, Montana, April 2006, Texas SandFest,
Mustang Island, Texas.
Tied for First Place with team Sanding Ovations. Bill carved the
Wizard with his remote control clicking channels on the crystal ball.
The scene in the ball is
what I carved on the back of the Wizard, Big Ugly in a stare down with the warrior. Looks
like Big Ugly is in trouble....
The Fun with Dragons, Duo with S. McGrew of Olympia WA, Sept 2006, The World Championships of
SandSculpture, Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia, Canada. I did the arching body of the
dragon and the mermaid. Sue did the head and tail of the dragon.
Sand Sculpture, Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia, Canada. This sculpture is homage to
"Chopper Chicks in Zombie Town" one of only one movies ever made featuring a female motorcycle
gang and zombies. Bert carved the giant zombie head, I sculpted the hot chick on the bike.
With the big club.
Team Sculptures:
The Maelstrom, Dow Corning Sand Co. (B. Dow, B. Adams, K. Corning, S. Altamare and M. Chapman),
Sept 2007, The World Championships of Sand Sculpture, Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia,
Canada. I did the ugly guy...
